The mind imagination to music connection is a real one in my world, and probably one of the coolest things we humans do. Sure we all have shortcomings and those are handled by other professionals. We must stay as real, human and creative. Aslo kind as possible or risk become the grey goo starter yeast of the future. Of course if you believe Sam Altman (of open AI) even grey goo will have a minimal living wage, for real mate? Endless vacation in the metaverse? What a nightmare! Be the power, collaborate humans to humans!!
Recording Software Updates
Just a heads up to those who are interested that yet again an Apple OS update Sonoma 14.4 has broken bits of third party software. Namely Universal Audio and Pace iLok have been effected together. Universal Audio have provided information up to the minute as have Pace. It really pays to double, triple, quadruple check before updating especially during busy projects. In fact, my advice is to never fall for the update during a big project. No doubt fixes will be forthcoming – the rest of the Mac software is flying through tasks so I couldn’t be happier there!

Old colleagues..
Early 2024, the UK pro-audio world has said goodbye an incredible orchestral sound engineer Mike Ross-Trevor. I was lucky to have tape-op’ed for Mike on orchestral sessions at The Hit Factory London. Like everyone who worked with him I encountered the most humble, cool headed sound engineer I’d ever met. His affect on those who met him will be enduring. RIP.

Hi guys, while producing you must tune your guitars before every set of takes. Tuning your guitar is crucial for accurate pitch, harmony, and musicality. Proper tuning ensures that your playing aligns with other instruments, creating a pleasing and harmonious sound for listeners. Grab an E note and tune how it makes you play like a demon!! And remember, play like a demon.
Are guitar effect pedals vanishing?
Hey this is an interesting question that pops up for me every now and again. Whenever I’m mindlessly scrolling Facebook marketplace I see so many people selling their guitar pedals. At a London studio I came across well known 90’s Producer Alan Moulder’s effect pedal road case it was not just filled but actually overflowing. However having physical guitar pedals there with real world cables to connect adds a real human and deeply creative sense of satisfaction. I always encourage my clients to take a breath, dig deep for patience and just try the physical gear even if it takes a few more minutes.
